Behavior:
Brywood Elementary has implemented the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention
Support). The behaviors that we expect for students, parents, and staff are
outlined in our new school motto S.C.O.R.E. (Success, Compassion, On-Task,
Respect, and Effort). In and out of the classroom, students can earn
S.C.O.R.E. cards for modeling specifically taught behaviors. We celebrate the
students every Friday during our flag deck ceremony.
In our classroom, when students are being disruptive or disrespectful, they
receive a break in our penalty box. During the break students are asked to
reflect on the behavior that inappropriate. Parents will be notified of the
situation and they will need to sign and return the penalty box form.
HOMEWORK:
Homework is an essential part of developing time management, responsibility,
and good study and work habits. Students will use their Brywood planner
daily to record assignments. Homework is divided into two categories,
daily and weekly. Daily, students finish assignments not completed during
class. These are used to practice and reinforce new learning. On a weekly
basis, students will be responsible for Science Interactive Text and
Spelling. Students should also be practicing math facts and silent reading
(20 minutes a night)four nights a week. Homework is due as noted in the
planner. If you are unsure if your child has written the assignments
correctly, please check the class website. Late work will not be accepted.
COMMUNICATION:
If at any time you have any questions, comments, or concerns you can
reach me at kcduroch@iusd.org or by phone at 949)936-5527. However, email is
the best way to reach me.
GRADING:
There are two types of grades that you may see on your child’s work. There
are effort grades ( check plus, check, check minus) and letter/percentage
grades(A, B, C, D). To ensure students feel successful, some assignments
receiving a score below 70% may be corrected and resubmitted. If an
assignment is stamped “Please Correct & Return” that is an assignment that
may be resubmitted.
Please look through your child's work in his/her "Friday Folder". If needed,
review and correct work for an improved grade. ALL RESUBMITTED WORK IS DUE ON
MONDAY. Your child will receive 75% for corrected work. A progress report
will be sent mid-trimester to inform you of your child's progress.
FIELD TRIPS:
We usually go on three field trips per year. When a permission slip comes
home, please try to return it promptly. We often have deadlines to submit
payment.
We always need parent volunteers. However, some trips limit the number of
parents that can go. If you are interested in chaperoning, please sign up at
the bottom of the information letters as they come home. When needed, a
drawing will be held for those who complete the slips.
BIRTHDAYS:
In Room 15, we all love to celebrate birthdays! To promote a healthy
lifestyle, our school policy is that no food or drinks be brought in to
celebrate. Instead, students may choose to do one of the following if they
wish:
*Donate a book to our class library
*Provide a new playground ball
*Bring in school supplies such as pencils/erasers/highlighters for the
students
*Bring a small toy or party favor for each student
Please limit the amount spent to $1.00 or less per student. Celebrating
birthdays at school is always optional and your choice. I will give each
student a birthday pencil to celebrate their day. Thanks for your continued
support!
