Genre Projects

Dear Parents and Students,
In order to become more aware of the many different and interesting types
of literature, or genre (jon’ruh), each month we will highlight one in
particular. Each student will need to select his or her own book within
the genre and read it within one month’s time. At the end of the month, on
the date given below, a book project will be due. An oral presentation
will accompany the project. The actual work can be done in class during
free time, but most of it will need to be worked on at home. The students
have a choice as to which project they will complete. Instructions will
be covered in class. The rubric on the back of this letter will be used to
score the project and the oral presentation.

Genre Project
Biography

For our last Genre Project, all students will choose a biography to read. The
reading can be done in class, but most of it will need to be done at home. The book
needs to be read and returned to school by Tuesday, May 29th.

The project will be completed in class and we will have a culminating activity on
Thursday, June 14th. Our focus on this project will be informative writing,
paragraphing, and oral presentation. I have listed the research questions on the
back that we will be focusing on in class. Feel free to help your child research
further using other books or the internet. Please contact me with any questions or
concerns!
