How many Independent Reading Pages do we need to read?
Language Arts/English students are required to read 1000 Independent Reading
Pages each QUARTER, for a total of 4000 pages. This averages out to about 22
pages a night for 5 nights of the week throughout each quarter.
When you have finished a book, complete an Independent Reading form and turn
it in to get credit. DON'T WAIT until the last minute to do this!
How often do we have Homework?
Almost EVERY night! Students are expected to complete written assignments
and reading requirements, spending AT LEAST 20-30 minutes on homework EVERY
DAY. If you don't have a written assignment, spend the extra time reading.
Remember, if you read 25-35 pages a night, meeting the Independent Reading
Requirement will be NO PROBLEM!
Does Ms. Shen accept late work?
Late work of any kind WILL NOT be accepted, so please be prepared on the day
that the assignment is due. You do receive 4 Late Homework Coupons per
semester, which allow
you to turn assignments in on the next class period with no penalty; however,
these are not good on
all class assignments. Please check with Ms. Shen to see when they can be used.
The absent work policy is in effect if you are absent.
What do I do if I am absent?
If you are absent, you are responsible for the information we cover in class and for the assignments
you miss. Please check the CLASSWORK & HOMEWORK link to get an outline of the info we covered.
Then, check the BELLWORK and/or APPETIZER links to get the prompts and notes for the day. You
can also check the NOTES link to download any of the notes you need to put into your English
Notebook.
How do I find out my grade?
Grade updates are emailed out and posted in my classroom about every 2 weeks. If you are interested in receiving these emails, please let me know.
