I have been teaching music in Castro Valley since 1988.
I've been awarded Castro Valley School District Teacher of the
Year twice (!) in 1995-96 and 2007-08. I was also CV Masonic Teacher of
the Year in 2000.
I came back to teaching following a successful singing
career - over 2000 gigs in ten years! A native of Texas and Oregon (it
was a BIG move back in seventh grade!), I've lived in California since
graduating from the University of Oregon. Besides enjoying a huge
variety of musical styles - everything from rock to opera - I'm also an
avid cook, a voracious reader and a fan of the CAL Bears. I love to travel,
and hope to do
more of it. The past five summers have been spent travelling in Europe,
seeing incredible art and seeing and hearing opera in many of Europe's famous
and historical opera houses. Last summer I even took a one week, full
immersion French language course in Sancerre before travelling further around
France.
My son Ben has followed a musical path as well, and
plays, tours and records with his band "Lemonade".
*To work with students producing amazing music!
*To teach my students the life long skills that are learned as part of being
in a performing ensemble, including teamwork and personal responsibility -
both to themselves and the group.
*To help them develop self respect, self discipline, self esteem, and self
confidence through working and performing in a high achieving musical setting.
Middle school choir students are capable of incredible superior quality
singing. I hope we can work hard and have fun while we become the
best choir possible!
