Dear Second Grade Parents,
We have started the New Year with wonderful evidence of each of your
children's growth and determination! The Second Trimester has challenged your
child with many opportunities to express their mastery of the Second Grade
cirriculum, independent study skills and the blending balance of work and
play. We have celebrated individual student achievements for the Quality
Awards of Patience and Gratitude. We are now preparing and practicing for the
Second Grade Assembly on 'Determination.'
We had a hugely successful Open House which highlighted the beautiful work
the students are producing in Spelling, Language, Math, Composition, Reading,
Spanish, Art and Literature. In addition to the Bluebird Book we are reading
The Little House in The Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We traveled
back in time to make Laura Ingalls butter, which was delicious!!
Valentines's Day was a spirited celebration of friendship and unconditional
giving. The students showed their amazing creativity decorating their
Valentine bags and sharing their Valentine cards and treats with all the
students in Second Grade.
We are wrapping up the Second Trimester and looking forward to a big finish
Third Trimester! Parents often ask how they can support and supplement their
children's academic growth at home? We strongly encourage your children to
read outloud to you every day so that they are building their vocabulary,
deepening their comprehension skills and reading with fluency as well as
mastery of their word recognition. We also encourage daily Math study with a
focus on mastering Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication Math facts. The
students should be solid in the 2's, 3's, 5's and working towards mastery of
the 7's multiplication tables. We also encourage daily practice of elapsed
time in their Time Telling skills.
