5th Grade Fitness Testing

This year once again, the Elk Grove Unified School District will participate in the state mandated Physical Fitness Testing. The Fitnessgram testing will be performed for all 5th, 7th and 9th grade students. The Fitnessgram is a comprehensive, health-related fitness program and includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests designed to assess aerobic capacity, body composition, muscle strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. The scores on this test will help each student plan a personalized fitness plan, and help to meet the California Physical Education Challenge Standards. The tests that will be administered include:

1.       The one-mile walk/run

2.       Body composition (Body Mass Index)

3.       Curl-ups (sit-ups)

4.       Flex Arm Hang or Ninety-degree push-ups

5.       Trunk lift

6.       Shoulder stretch

There are specific ranges that each student needs to test within, depending on their age and gender. I have gone over the requirements and students are aware what their range is. If a student passes all elements, they will receive a Distinguished Award during the third trimester awards assembly. If a student goes above and beyond the requirements in each area, they will receive an Elite Award. (Body Composition does not affect whether a student will receive an award.) We will prepare for this test all year with various activities and stretches.  The districts testing window is February – May.
