All About Me

I should probably write this in third person, but that just feels impersonal.
Therefore, I'm choosing to go against the norm and write in first person!

There is a Dr. Seuss book called All About Me. As you can probably tell from
the title, kids fill in information about themselves as they grow up. One
section of the book has a space for autographs. As a child, I was intent on
getting each autograph on the list. One day our mailman came to deliver mail
and I needed his autograph, so I jumped on my bike and sped after him (this
was back in the day of mail delivery trucks). In my haste and excitement, I
failed to remember that mailmen tend to stop at each mailbox (at least the
good ones) and I rode right into the back of the stopped truck. Many tears
and stitches later, I was elated to have finally completed my autographs in
the book. This is just one of the many stories the kids will hear this year!
You may get tired of these stories at your dinner table, but the kids find
them entertaining!

I grew up in Modesto, California. My mom was a teacher for almost 40 years
and just retired. I grew up helping her grade papers and put up bulletin
boards. After I graduated from UCSB, I moved to Sacramento and earned my
teaching credential and masters. This is my twelfth year teaching! I taught
kindergarten the first year and have taught 5th grade ever since.

A lot of you already know I'm married to Mr. Allen (Jason) who used to teach at Case and is now at
McKee! We had a daughter, Rya Hollis Allen, in
September of 2008. She will be three soon! Hopefully, she can find some time
between play dates to
come visit the class this year.

In my free time I love to read, ride my bike, run, spend time with friends and
family, and travel. I enjoy endurance racing such as marathons and Ironman
triathlons. Mr. Allen and I have a goal of visiting all seven continents. A
few years ago we visited the most remote- Antarctica. The kids will see
photos at some point during the year as it pertains to our science
curriculum.

I look forward to hearing all about you this year!
