About The Teacher

Daphne Moote, a native Californian, has been teaching Kindergarten at Center
Street School for over 20 years. She received a BS degree at the University
of Southern California, a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum, and certified
as a National Board Early Childhood Teacher in 2002. She has also received
several awards in the field of education. Daphne received a WHO award in 2008,
an Employee Recognition Award in the Area of Culture in 2003, and was Center
Street Teacher of the Year in 2001. Recently, in May 2009, she received the
Children Empowerment Award.

Ms. Moote is the founder and director of DAMLA, a non-profit learning academy
where her philosophy: "Fun while learning in a relaxed non-threatening
environment" is supported. This academy incorporates drama, art, science,
cooking, self esteem enhancement and leadership training for children ages 5-
12. Established in 1991, it has become one of the most in-demand learning
experiences in the area, and typically enjoys capacity enrollment months
before it begins. This is a joint project with Akani Fletcher. Akani, creative
director, writes and directs original children's plays for each workshop.

Ms. Moote volunteers countless hours as she serves as President of the El
Segundo Teachers' Association. As a result, she has built positive working
relationships with the district and other associations. She is an avid and
active supporter of public school education. One of the most significant
activities she was involved in was helping to pass school bond measures that
modernized all our district schools. As a CTA Legislative coordinator, she
works to facilitate contact between the legislative body and parents and
teachers in the support of public education.

Since certifying as a NBCT, she has provided support for national board
candidates in several South Bay communities. As a Boeing Ambassador, she works
to increase awareness of the benefits of National Board Certification, with a
view toward recruitment and assistance to well-qualified candidates.

In her spare time, Daphne enjoys reading, movies, creating home movies,
cooking, and spending time with her husband, friends, & family.

Mission For The Class

My mission is to enhance learning opportunities for my students by providing
an environment where my student's natural love for life and learning are
encouraged, nurtured and intrinsically instilled so that my students will be
lifelong leaners. I will strive to create a strong sense of community while
creating a caring and respectful environment.

I believe a calm and rich in-depth learning environment allows this to happen.
Two-way communication is vital, and I invite all parents in my class to
communicate with me. I will also keep you informed with general class
information and specifics about your child on a regular basis.

It is my goal to make your child's kindergarten year the best it possibly can
be. Why? Because I truly believe that children's Early Childhood experiences
make an important difference in a child's life. I want the children in my
class to have a solid, rich foundation as they begin their educational
journey. Thank you, in advance, for the opportunity to work with your children
this year.
