I have been a
teacher for over 15 years and have been at Centralia School for
over 12 years. I have primarily taught 6th grade for all those years and have
loved it. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, a Masters degree
in Curriculum and Instruction, and certificates for both my CLAD and GATE.
Many people think that being in my class means they are GATE (gifted), but
that is not the case at all. I am certified by California State University,
Fullerton to teach gifted students. So some students in my class are in the
GATE program, but the other students are a mix of abilities including those in
Speech and RSP. Please understand that each child will be challenged at his
or her appropriate level in each subject. There will be times that everyone
will be expected to do the same assignment, but there will be times that
assignments will be different. Tests will be handled in the same manner.
I am expecting a fantastic year this year despite all of the financial
challenges that face education right now. I look forward to working with your
child and am eager to see the changes this year will bring.
My goal for this class is to not only improve academically, but to become
more aware of being humanitarian; having empathy and tolerance for
all people. I also want my students to share an appreciation for their
similarities and differences with each other. I want them to become
more well rounded individuals who strive for balance and excellence in
their lives.
