Music : The PTO has provided us with a music teacher for the year. Our music time is on Wednesdays. The instructor will follow the music program provided by OVSD.
Work Centers : After the children have completed their work they have the privilege of attending work centers. This is their opportunity to work independently at a center of their choice. All centers have learning objectives to practice and reinforce skills.
Discipline : I believe in positive discipline. I have one main rule in my class, Please take care of yourself! I spend time daily discussing what this means, what behavior is appropriate, and what I expect from each child. I encourage each child to be the best that they can be!
We have a behavior chart that helps the students to be responsible for their behavior. Each student starts off every morning at Home Run, if they continue to have a good day, they will stay there. If they have a super day, they will move up to Grand Slam. If however they are having a difficult time, I will have them move to Up to Bat, so that they realize the choice is theirs to be successful. If unwanted behavior continues, the student will move their clip to Strike Out, I will then send a note home for you to sign, explaining the situation and asking for your support from home.
To help encourage the children to do their best, I look for two children a day who have excelled to give out awards to. If your child brings home an award, please show excitement and appreciation for their efforts. The children should be proud of these awards!
I have a marble jar that is filled when our class as a whole, shows good behavior. When the jar is filled, the children will have a class vote to choose their reward.
Each child also has a sticker chart in their desk that they put stickers on for various reasons. When their chart is full, they may take it home and also pick something out of the prize box.
If a problem does occur, I will... 1. Talk with the child and try to solve the problem right then 2. Send home a note to you alerting you of the problem 3. Conference with the child and parent together 4. Conference with the child, parent and principal
