May and June 2012
Dear Room 11 Parents and Students,
WOW! I can't believe that this is my last update of the school year! Time
has flown by! I hope that it has been as rewarding for you as it has for me.
I am so happy with the social and academic growth the students have made this
year. I have had the chance to connect with each child on a personal level
and I will never forget them. I hope they will look back on their year in
second grade with a smiles on their faces.
It is time for the students to show how amazing they are! We will have CA
State testing the week of May 7-11. We will test each day at 8:15am. Please
do your best to make sure your child comes to school on time and well rested.
This is a very important week for the students. I do my best to try and relax
the students and encourage them to do their best. This is not a timed test,
they have as long as they need to take it. Because some children may need a
longer time, children need to bring 2 books with them to have at their desk
to read when they are finished. There will be NO HOMEWORK during testing week.
The children should be reading a poetry book for their blue bag reading
assignment. The children need to pick one poem to write in their reading log
and memorize to recite to the class on Thursday, May 3.
As most of you know we are studying fossils, rocks, and dinosaurs in
science. We have paper mached the dinosaurs that the students made at home.
We will be painting the dinosaurs in class on Tuesday, May 1. Please try to
send your child to school in old clothes on this day. If any parents would
like to help with the painting, we will be painting from 9-10 on Tuesday.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our school Open House on Wed.
May 16 from 6:30- 7:30. The children can't wait to show you all of the
incredible things that we have been doing in class!
