What is the daily schedule like?

*8:05 a.m. arrival: Children should place their belongings along 
the wall outside the north door and proceed to the playground
until 8:15 a.m. bell. Parents are asked to allow their child to
complete this task on their own. Thank you for your cooperation!
*2:27 p.m. dismissal Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.
1:00 p.m. dismissal Wed.: I will walk the children to the front
hall for dismissal. Please be visible. Thank you!

How do we purchase lunches from the cafeteria?

*Money may be placed in your child's account at the school 
cafeteria before school. Please pack ample food for your child
to have a light snack (10:15 a.m.) and a substantial lunch.

What is the homework routine?

You should expect your child to spend 40-45 minutes on homework 
each night. Homework is assigned every night of school, except
Friday.
*Homework comes home each night in a Homework folder.
*Follow the nightly schedule found on the Assignment sheet. This
will developstudy skills your child will need as they become
older. Please sign the assignment sheet each night showing that
you have reviewed your child's homework.
*Regular weekly assignments include: Home Reading Record,
Assigned Nightly Work, and the study of Math Facts and Spelling
Words. Math facts should be made on flash cards. Additionally,
students will be responsible for science,Social Studies and other
homework projects which have weekly due dates.
*Homework is returned to school each day.
*Graded classwork/homework is sent home on Fridays in you child's
Homeworkfolder. Please have your child return the folder every
Monday.
*Please feel free to write any comments or questions on the
assignment sheet and I will respond accordingly.

When will my child begin cursive?

Cursive will begin in third grade.

How do I become a parent volunteer?

I welcome and appreciate your time and energy!  Please note the 
available sign-up sheet at Back to School Night and see if you are able to commit to a
weekly time slot! You may even choose to share with a friend.

What field trips will we have this year?

*We will take several field trips throughout the school year. 
Please refer to the sheet you will receive at Back-to-School
Night for more details. A limited amount of parents will be able
to assist us on each trip. We will try to include all parents.

When do we begin the first conferences?

*Fall Conferences: Fall conferences are scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving in 
November. This is a mandatory parent/teacher/student conference. This is a great opportunity for us to discuss goals
for your child for the upcoming year. Please schedule your
conference tonight! Progress reports will be distributed at your
child's conference.

What are the book orders?

*Scholastic Inc. provides a monthly book order club.  This club 
provides parents with an opportunity to purchase books at a
reasonable price. I will send home forms each month, starting
next month. If you wish to purchase,please fill out the
appropriate form(s) and make one check to Scholastics
Inc. (Even if you are ordering from Firefly, Trumpet, etc.).
These orders have due dates, please check on the back. Every
book purchased through the book club gives our class points to
get more books for our classroom!

How often should my child be reading?

*Nightly Reading: One of the major keys to success in school is 
reading! Children need to see their parents reading as well! So
please encourage your child to read and you can also read to
them. Please spend at least 20 minutes a night reading. This is
part of your child's nightly homework assignment!

Do we have celebrations at school?

*Parties/Birthdays: Room 9 will celebrate Halloween, 
Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's
Day, Springtime, and End-of-the-Year.Please sign up for food and
treat donations! Most parties will take place the last 45
minutes of our school day!
*I welcome you to celebrate your child's birthday at school! You
may drop of goodies in the morning. Please pre-arrange a
date/time with me! Thank you!
