Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I trust that all of you had a wonderful and restful holiday
season! Many thanks to all the parents and volunteers who provided their
time, materials, delicious treats and supplies for our Winter Holiday Party!
It was so much fun for the children! Thank you so much for your support of
room 13!
Kindergarteners, you did a marvelous job at the Holiday Sing! Way to go!
Our last week before break, Kindergarteners and First Graders continued
to "travel" to different countries such as Germany and then back to the
United States for an African American Kwanzaa celebration! In addition, the
First Graders made darling reindeer hats, necklaces and made reindeer
sandwiches.
The Kindergarteners have completed their review through the alphabet. We
will continue to learn about letters and sounds. Parents, please continue to
review all letters and sounds with your child. In addition, Kindergarteners
continue to learn about number sense and counting by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's.
In First Grade, students continue to learn about geometric shapes and
fractions. Students will continue to learn about grammar rules and will be
reading in their anthologies.
Our First Graders are doing a fabulous job with the Accelerated Reader
program! Please encourage your child to continue to check out books from the
library that he/she can read independently. The goal is for your child to
read independently and take quizzes independently at the computer. Thanks.
This month, our theme will be winter. We will learn about animals that live
in the Artic such as penguins and polar bears. We will also read fun and
enjoyable books about snow and snowmen. I will be incorporating weather, and
the basic climate changes that cause water (rain) to change to a solid (ice
and snow). We will also learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and his mission
for peace.
Have a wonderful week and welcome back!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gentry
