What is D.E.A.R?

D.E.A.R. stands for Drop Everything and Read. Room B9 has D.E.A.R. 3 to 4
times per week. The first Friday of every month is our school-wide D.E.A.R.
event where students and teachers will 'drop everything and read' from 1:40
p.m. to 2:10 p.m.

Why do the students have rotation?

The fifth grade student will rotate for three units of study: social studies
with Mers. Sapienza, science with Mrs. Amaya, and literature with Mrs.
crawford. Rotation allows each teacher to focus on one subject area and also
gives the students the opportunity to work with different teachers.

Can my student bring treats for his/her birthday?

Absolutely! Your student may bring a snack or treat to share with his/her
classmates anytime! Our school recognizes both birthdays and half-birthdays
(for those born during the summer months)

How can I contact you if I have questions or concerns?

Communication between student-teacher-parent is very important! The best way
to contact me is by e-mail. You can contact me through this web-site or at
kimsap13@yahoo.com. I do not check my voice mail at school. In an emergency
you may call me at home (909) 981-8878.

How much reading is required for homework?

More reading = better reading! We require fifth graders to read for enjoyment
at least 30 minutes everyday. This can also include reading aloud to a
parent or sibling. It is a good idea to read books that have Accelerated
Reader Quizzes. Students can check the AR page to find books in their
reading range to read.

How much time shoud my student be spending on daily homework?

The average amount of time for fifth grade students to spend on homework is
about 1 1/2 hours. Of course this does not take into conderation long term
projects, reports, or procrastinations!

ICE CREAM for BOOKS!

At Condit School

September 2008

Dear Students and Parents,

It’s time to start the Condit School Accelerated Reader program for the Third
through Sixth grades. The
purpose of this program is to accelerate growth in reading ability and foster
a love of reading in all
students. The theme is Ice Cream for Books! Students who complete this
program will receive a trophy
at a special Reading Awards Assembly in June.

Each trimester a Personal Goal will be established by the teachers along with
each student, and consists
of three components:
1.	Average percent correct
2.	Points earned
3.	Average book level

A Snack Ticket to be redeemed at Condit’s Snack Bar will be earned at the end
of each trimester if a
student has reached his or her personal goal.

In addition, certificates for new books can be earned by the students for
reaching his or her
Certification Level, which is set based on the Star Reading assessment.

Requirements to earn a trophy are simply to reach your personal Accelerated
Reader goal at least two of
the three trimesters this year.

If there are any questions please just ask! Now let’s START READING!
