Spelling List

Spelling List for “Heat Wave”  
Spelling focus: words ending with –ed or –ing
If a base word ends in e, the e is dropped before adding –ed or –ing (race + 
ed = raced).  If a base word ends with two consonants, no spelling change is 
needed before adding –ed or –ing (land + ed = landed).  If a one-syllable 
word ends with a vowel followed by a single consonant, double the consonant 
before adding –ed or –ing ( snap + ing = snapping).

Monday:  PB pg 196 &197
Tuesday:  ABC order with spelling words only / study definitions of 
vocabulary words 
Wednesday: Choose 12 vocabulary words to write in a sentence of your own. 
Make sure the meaning of the word matches the definition.  Try to use other 
spelling words in each sentence as well.  Underline the vocabulary word in 
one color and the spelling words in another color.
Thursday:  Practice spelling test signed by parent.  Study the vocabulary 
words for a test on the definition tomorrow.
