Accelerated Reader
Please remember that your child should be reading their AR book for at least
30 minutes each night. If your child is struggling with passing AR quizzes,
they may need to read books at the lower end of their ZPD. They may also need
to stop and summarize each chapter after reading it. I suggest
students summarize, by writing a question for each chapter. Then when they go
to take the quiz, they can review the questions as a study guide. It is also
very helpful if you sit with them during/after their reading to discuss the
story with them. Remember that their AR points count for
30% of their reading comprehension strand.
