Cheer Tryouts will be held at some point in April. We do not have a specific date yet. Only 7th and 8th graders may try out for cheer(boys and girls). Tryouts will be a week long. Monday we will have a parent meeting, Tuesday through Thursday - practice after school, and Friday - tryouts.
Students get to try out in a group of three. Students will perform a cheer that they made up in their small groups and a dance that they will have learned from Coach Jenee during the week. Students are highly encouraged to wear Creekside colors.
Ms. Gosselin and I are the cheer advisors for cheerleading here at Creekside. We do not choose the students who become cheerleaders. At tryouts, we have a panel of teachers who are the judges. The teachers' scores determine the students' eligibility for cheer. We also collect teacher recommendations that count as part of the student's score. Ms. Gosselin and I add up the scores and put the list together.
Cheerleading is about $1000.00 per cheerleader. This money is not exact! It is a rough estimate. The money covers the cheerleader's uniform, cheer camp and any competitions or extra fun activities we get to participate in.
Camp: This year we will be going to camp at Menlo College - about a 40 minute drive from Castro Valley. We will be commuting to camp which cuts down the cost of camp. Camp this year will be from July 19 - 21. Either Ms. Gosselin or I and Coach Jenee will be attending camp with the cheerleaders every day.
If you have any questions about cheerleading, please don't hesitate to email either Ms. Gosselin or me! We are looking forward to tryouts and all the excitement that comes along with them. :)
