About The Teacher

Mrs. Young is very happy to be here at Dodson Middle School.

I graduated from Banning High School and went on to pursue a B.A. in History
with a Specialization in Business Administration from UCLA (even though my
husband went to USC). By the way, I was All-League at Banning High School in
Basketball. I was recruited by UC Berkley for their Women's Basketball Team,
but I broke my ankle in my Senior Year and besides, their was no WNBA.
However, I played for UCLA's Intramural League during my freshman year.

While at UCLA, I did a lot of great things including joining Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, Inc., winning the Harambe Image Award and graduating with honors.
I also traveled with El Camino College to Madrid, Spain where I lived for
three months.

Upon graduation from UCLA, I worked as an Assistant Buyer with Robinson's
Department Stores. I was then hired to be a Project Analyst for the Federal
Reserve Bank of the United States-Los Angeles Branch. Finally, I decided
that I would really enjoy teaching. I saved my money and returned to college
full time where I earned my Masters Degree in Teaching/Curriculum from
California State University Dominguez Hills.

I am in my 14th year of teaching, having taught at both the elementary and
middle school levels. Eventually, I would like to attend USC (I know, I
know) to receive my Doctorate of Education and teach at the California State
University level. But I think that I will wait until my 6 and 9 year old
children are at least in high school.

I love singing, traveling and spending time with my family. I
especially love vacationing with my husband.

THIS SUMMER
Our family visited Santa Cruz and LaJolla. My children participated in
swimming, miniguards, Brownie Girl Scout Camp and Webelos Weekend.

I really had a wonderful summer. I hope that you did also.

Mission For The Class

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how pleased and
excited I am that your child is in my class. This year, I will teach 6th
grade GATE/SAS Math, Science/Health and Study Skills/Exploration in Math. We
can all look forward to a busy and successful year. I hope to speak to each
one of you personally.
My mission is that everyone would learn and be more intuitive,
better problem solvers, and smarter thinkers than before. Most of all, I
hope that everyone would learn and continue to be mannerable and respectful
of themselves and everyone else.
