What is the PTA?
PTA stands for Parent-Teacher Association. PTA is the nation’s oldest, largest and highest profile
volunteer organization working on behalf of public schools, children and families. PTA volunteers
work in their schools and communities to improve the education, health and welfare of all children
and youth.
Who Should join the PTA?
All parents and teachers/school staff should join the Edna Batey PTA. In addition, grandparents,
aunts, uncles, and all members of our community are very welcome to become members.
If I join the PTA will I be obligated to volunteer at school?
No. Joining the Edna Batey PTA just shows your support for the programs and resources we provide
for the school. Of course, you are always welcome to join us at meetings to find out what's
happening at school and to get involved as much as you'd like.
What does the PTA do for our school?
The PTA organizes volunteers to provide Art Docents to the classrooms as well as organize many
of the enriching activities at the school. Bobcat Bash, Dances, Assemblies, Yearbook, and Movie
Nights are just a few examples of what the PTA organizes at Batey. We also
have fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for many items at the school. The PTA provides
Accelerated Reader along with all of the lanyards and medals. PTA purchases many of the extra
classroom supplies that are no longer covered by the district and helps with Sly Park funding. Last
year PTA also provided a GATE session and facilitated bringing Mad Science onto our campus!
How do I become a PTA Member?
It's easy! PTA Membership forms are sent home at the beginning of the school year. They are also
available in the school office and ready to download in the Forms section of this website. Fill it out,
and turn it in to your child's teacher.
