I have been teaching for over 10 years and it continues to be a fun and challenging
job for me. I love the hands-on activities and critical thinking involved with teaching
science. After studying Biology at San Jose State University, I worked in field biology
before serving in the Peace Corps-Bulgaria in 1997. There I lived for over 2 years, working
as a project manager and educator for the city of Silistra. I started teaching at Egan in 2001.
When I'm not working, I enjoy all types of athletics and activities. During the winter, I love heading up
to Tahoe for snowboarding. During the summers I try to go wakeboarding and travel as much as
possible. I also spend time with my wife and two sons. I'm also a huge Giants fan and go to as many
games as I can. I have 5 brothers, 6 sisters, and several neices and nephews, so there's always a
birthday party or family gathering to attend.
I believe that science is both lived and learned. I would like for students
to come out of 8th grade science with, not only a solid background and
understanding of our standards-based curriculum, but also an ability to
observe, and think critically about, the world in which they live. This will
be achieved through in-class, and group activities, as well as individual
assignments at home. Students will also complete a long-term project,
in which they will make a positive and quantifiable impact on their personal
environment.
