Careers

Please have your planner, SSR book, mini stapler, notebook, and personal pencil sharpener with you EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Below is a copy of the letter that goes home with students the first week of the class-

Dear Parents and Students:

Careers is an elective class that will focus on exploring the world of work.  Students will learn about career choices and job options in preparation for joining the work force.  I will be incorporating a variety of materials, lessons, and strategies to help your child progress and succeed in this class.

I am looking for parents who are willing to come in and talk to the kids about various careers.  If you or anyone you know has had an interesting job experience that you would be willing to share, perhaps you can be a guest speaker.  I will be asking for volunteers to come into the classroom to make presentations for the students.  I am especially looking for high-interest careers.

Your child has a copy of our class behavior expectations and school rules.  As a class we will review these policies so that your child clearly knows the expectations.  My behavior management system includes a variety of positive reinforcements and consequences for negative behavior.  Inappropriate behavior may result in after-school detention, demerits, or a phone call home. Good behavior results in compliments, rewards, and praise for your child.

This trimester each student will be taking interest and aptitude surveys, filling out job applications, writing resumes, practice interviewing techniques, honing computer skills in the lab, and researching higher education programs. I look forward to our time together!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Murray
