Homework

It is recommended that second graders read 15-20 minutes every night on practicing fluent reading with an adult or older sibling.  Listen as your child reads out loud.  This is an opportunity for you to model what fluent reading sounds like.  We encourage students to "make it sound like talking", use phrasing, expression, and intonation.  If your child is reading "like a robot" or in a monotone voice, this is a great time to show them how it should sound.  Then let them reread the sentence/passage.

Homework will be sent home every Monday in a "Homework Folder" and is to be returned completed every Friday. Follow the week's assignments and return all contents in folder on Friday. Please make sure you sign your name that you checked your child's homework.  The weekly homework assignments will reinforce skills that are taught in the classroom.  If homework is not turned in, your child will miss his/her first recess and will also not be able to participate in Friday Fun Club. So please make sure your child completes all the work in the packet and returns it each Friday.

In keeping with my responsibility to inform you of your child's progress, a "Homework/Behavior Report" will be sent home each Monday for the previous week.  Please review the report, sign, and return the following day inside the "Communication Folder".  In this way, we can monitor and recognize good, as well as, not so good weekly classroom work habits/behavior.
