Homework

Second Graders are expected to do 30 minutes of homework daily.  It is recommended that 20 minutes of that time be spent practicing fluent reading with an adult or older sibling.  Listen as your child reads out loud.  This is an opportunity for you to model what fluent reading sounds like.  We encourage students to "make it sound like talking", use phrasing, expression, and intonation. If your child is reading "like a robot" or in a monotone voice, this is a great time to show them how it should sound.  Then let them reread the sentence/passage.

Homework will be sent home every Monday in a "homework folder" and is due every Friday.  The assignments will reinforce skills that are taught in the classroom.  A spelling list will be assigned each week and the words should be practiced daily to ensure success on the spelling test on Friday.  Math facts should also be practiced daily.

Spelling lists and fluencies passages are back-to-back in your child's homework folder.  The highlighted spelling list is the one that you should be practicing with your child during the week.
