A bit about Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is used in more than 60,000 schools, well over half
the schools in the United States. According to What Works Clearinghouse,
Accelerated Reader “is a computer program that facilitates reading practice
by providing students and teachers feedback from quizzes based on the books
students read. The Program gives students the opportunity to practice
reading books at their level, provides feedback on student comprehensions of
books and helps students establish goals for their reading.”
Incentives: Trimester drawings - Students in the 2nd & 3rd grades will
qualify for a drawing at the end of each trimester when they have accumulated
5 AR points per month during that trimester. Students in the 4th-6th grades
will qualify for the drawing when they have accumulated 10 AR points per
month. The points are not accumulative from trimester to trimester for the
drawing. We will then pick one intermediate student and one primary student
winner. The winners will be announced at the Off-Track assemblies and will
receive a $5 Border’s Gift Card.
