Dear Parents,
December is an exciting time in kindergarten. Here's what's happening...
In reading/language arts we'll be concentrating on the ending sounds in words as well as continuing to practice print concepts, letter names and their sounds including long vowel sounds, blending consonant vowel consonant words, rhyming, segmenting words, and memorizing the kindergarten sight words. We will be taking dictation in our December journals, focusing on listening for and writing each sound heard in a word as well as writing sight words in our sentences. This trimester we are writing two sentences on a topic in our journals. In social studies we'll continue learning about workers in our community. In science we have begun our new unit Our Earth, Our Home as we learn about earth science. We'll focus on numbers to 20 this month in math.
SCHEDULE CHANGES IN DECEMBER All kindergarten students will be on the early schedule (7:40 - 11:11 a.m.) on Tuesday, December 6th for staff development and Tuesday, December 20th for track change day.
C TRACK OFF TRACK DAYS We will be off track beginning Wednesday, December 21st through Sunday, February 5, 2012. School will resume for C track on Monday, February 6, 2012 on our regular schedule. Second trimester assessments will begin in February. Please continue to work on letter names and sounds, sight words, and recognizing numbers to 20 while enjoying your vacation.
WINTER SING ALONG Please join us for a special evening at Elitha Donner's Annual Winter Sing-Along on Thursday, December 8th. Kindergarten students will be singing a Christmas song. We'll be meeting in our kindergarten room, K1, at 5:15 p.m. The sing-along is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the outdoor stage. Look for more information to come home in your child's communication folder.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION We've reached our goal of 250 box tops! Keep collecting and thank you to all those families who helped our class reach our goal.
LIBRARY DAY Please remember to return library books by Monday of each week to ensure your child will be able to check out another book to enjoy.
