Greetings in the name of the Lord,

November promises to be a busy month. Our first quarter is ending and Parent Teacher Conferences are taking place on the 11th, 12th, and 13th. You will have all received a phone call from me to set up a time when we can meet. If there is an unforeseen problem with your time, please let me know, and we can arrange another appointment. Remember that those three days a minimum days and the students will be out at 1:00 on those days. Our next book report is due on the 12th. We are also going to have a holiday concert on December 1, and you will be receiving more information about that later in the month.

During November the class will be studying several new concepts. Here is a list of those subjects and what we will be learning about in November:

READING: We will continue to use our textbook and will be learning about comparative and superlative forms, antonyms, using the glossary, understanding contractions, drawing conclusions and inference, prefixes, and abbreviations.

MATH: Be sure you keep up with your daily practice of the multiplication tables up to the twelve’s. This is very necessary now that we are going into three-digit division. We will also learn how to check division and what to do with division problems with remainders.

SCIENCE: The class will begin learning what happens when the environment changes.

HISTORY: The students will be studying Squanto and William Penn this month, which is appropriate at this Thanksgiving time. They will also begin studying the continents and oceans and how to use map keys.

ENGLISH: We will be learning about future and past tense verbs, helping verbs, and irregular verbs this month as well as prefixes. They will learn the parts of a letter.

BIBLE: We will be doing a study on having pure speech. Then we will do a mini unit on Thanksgiving, giving praise, and thanksgiving to God.

The month will come to a close with school being closed the week of Thanksgiving, and I wish all of you a time of praise and thanksgiving for all the bounty God has given all of us.

                                                            Yours in Christ,

                                                            Diane Nielsen
