What is PLP?
PLP is the Power Learning Program. Many students learn more
effectively in
small group settings. In small groups, or even individual
instruction,
students receive extra attention and much needed remediation. We
can meet
the needs of students who are not functioning at grade level in
one or more
subjects. PLP includes students from 1st grade through 8th
grade. Students
come to PLP for just the subject, or subjects, needed, and they
never miss
out on any enrichment subjects in the classroom.
Who can go to PLP?
Any student not performing at grade level in Math, English, or
Reading will
be referred to the principal and the PLP Department Head.
Parents will be
consulted and the child will be evaluated. Administration,
classroom
teacher,PLP Department Head, and parent will consult and
determine the best
approach to help the student. At that point placement may
occur. The PLP
teacher makes regular assessments and consults with the
classroom teacher,
principal, and parents to determine if the placement is working.
What does it cost?
The cost is in addition to tuition and other fees. For one
subject it is
$150 per month Each additional subject is only $50 per month.
Why can't my child be in PLP?
Not everyone qualifies for PLP. A child needs to be functioning
below grade
level in Reading, Math, or English according to the
Woodcock/Johnson test of
Achievement, have a diagnosed and defined learning disability,
or have
major gaps in previously learned material that causes him/her to
perform
below grade level expectations.
Who will be teaching my child?
The PLP department is headed by Ron Stafford. Mr. Stafford is
extremely fortunate to have Mrs. Susie Shuster in complete
charge of the math portion of PLP. She is immeasurably
competent, organized, and she expects the best from your
children. She has truly been a blessing to Mr. Stafford, and is
a treasure for the PLP Department. We are also blessed, once
again, to have Mrs. Rita Eldridge helping us. Last year was her
first in PLP, and she exceeded our expectations. Mrs. Eldridge
is very dedicated and has a great repoirt with her students.
She is always prepared and makes the most out of the time she
has with students. Jan Tanaka will also be teaching some of our
PLP classes this year, as well as being the art teacher for our
school. Mrs. Tanaka has a long and varied background in
education. She has a B.A in in English Education and a Learning
Disabilities Credential from Arizona State University. We will
be adding aides as needed, but rest assured they will all be
highly qualified to help your child to accomplish their best.
