What do I do when my child is absent?

You may call me directly before or on the day of your child's absence. If you reach my voicemail,
please leave your child's name and reason for the absence.
You may also send one of the absence notes I have provided or a note of your own with your child's
name, the date, and the reason for the absence.

How much should my child be reading nightly?

It is so important that your child read EVERY NIGHT! I recommend that the students read aloud for at
least 10-20 minutes and read a chapter book silently for as much as they can. It is proven that the
more a child reads, the better reader the child becomes.

When is the best time to reach Mrs. Button?

The best time to reach me is between 7:00-7:45 each morning, at recess between 10:05-10:20, at
lunch between 12:00-12:20 or after school between 3:30-4:15. Some days I come in early and stay
late, but those are not set days. You can also call and leave a message and I will get back to you as
soon as I can.

Can I call during instruction time?

If you need to talk to me about your child, I would prefer that you try to call at the times given above.
If you need to give an urgent message to your child, you may call during class time.

What if my child still does not understand the homework?

I go over the homework everyday and we work a few problems together. If your child is still having
difficulty, please try to assist him/her as much as you can. If that still doesn't help, please write me a
little note and I will be happy to work with your child.

Should I check my child's homework nightly?

At this point in the school year, the students should be very responsible and independent with their
schoolwork. However, it would be a good idea if you would just give the homework a quick glance to
make sure it is complete and NEAT.

What if my child's work is messy?

I try to stress quality to the students. Therefore, if the work is messy or difficult to read, please have
your child redo the assignment. This counts for math, too. After a few times of having to redo an
assignment, the students realize that is better to do it neatly and accurately the first time.
