Welcome

Welcome to John L. Golden Elementary School, where children shine. We are located in the northern portion of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, in San Bernardino County, California. John L. Golden Elementary School is part of the highly respected Etiwanda School District.

Our school is named for John L. Golden, who worked for the children of Etiwanda School District for 32 years. Mr. Golden contributed to the philosophy of education that permeates the Etiwanda School District and Golden Elementary.

Message from the Principal

Principal Photo
Hello. My name is Sherri Carmean and I am the principal at John L. Golden Elementary School, home of the Golden Stars.

Children come first at John L. Golden. The faculty and staff are truly committed to the development of the whole child and we work to see that each child grows academically, socially, and emotionally. Our active PTA and involved parents work with the school to provide additional support to our students.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to extend an invitation for you to visit John L. Golden Elementary School, attend your child's programs, and become an active member of our school by volunteering or through our PTA. We are pleased to have you and your child with us at Golden Elementary School.

New School Birthday Policy for 2011-2012

Dear Golden Families,

Starting next year John L. Golden Elementary School will have a new policy regarding the celebration of birthdays at school. Treats will no longer be a part of student birthday celebrations. Children’s birthdays will be celebrated in class with each teacher acknowledging birthdays in a special way such as a birthday crown, singing happy birthday, allowing a child to share a special book with the class, or in another manner appropriate for their age and grade. There will continue to be opportunities for parties for other special events.

The reasons for this change in policy include health concerns and the loss of instructional time. I can imagine it does not sound like much instructional time is lost for recognizing a birthday, but when you multiply the time by 30 or more students, and that not all birthday treats sent have been modest or easy to serve, it adds up to the equivalent of one or more days of lost instruction. Several of our students have health concerns related to food, including allergies, obesity, diabetes, and sensitivities to dyes. Additionally it is not uncommon for more than one birthday treat to be delivered on the same day, resulting in two sweet treats within one day.

Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to keep students healthy and help them learn.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Carmean
