WHAT’S NEW FROM GRADE 2

Second Grade Class Chapel is Wednesday!  Please have your child at school by 8:20 to get in costume.  Girls need to wear pigtails and boys need their hair combed.  We are “wooden people” in the skit.  Our songs are really fun, and I love our message!  Hope to see you there.

Some important dates:

2/8 Our Chapel Message, 8:30 - 9:15

2/13 No school

2/13 Kindergarten Open House 11-6

2/14 Valentine’s Day--Class Party

2/17 Enchanted Playhouse Field Trip, after flags

2/20 No school

2/23 Open House--Oral Interpretation Night, 6:30

Kindergarten Open House is next Monday.  This would be a great time to invite neighbors, relatives, or friends to check out our school.  Remember, we have full-day kindergarten!

This week we will be starting to pick our poems for Oral Interpretation Week.  Each child will be able to pick a poem to read and perform for the class and Miss Sandy.  They will then be able to perform it on Oral Interp Night if they choose.  It must be memorized if they want to do it that evening.  No props or costumes are allowed--it is more about public speaking than acting.  My class procedure is to let my kids explore the many books I have, let them pick, then make a copy for YOU to approve.  If you have choices at home, that’s fine.  I just need a copy (I will make extras) for class practice.

Part of the Booster Auction is the Dessert Auction.  This can count as an item you donate, whether you make it, your child makes it, or you purchase it.  Put it on a fancy serving plate, and you could have people bidding on it!  I know I bought some cookies made by a student one year just for the cute plate!  Mrs. Riesner and I fought over a tiny cupcake just because it was in this darling glass dome--the cupcake was delicious, by the way:-)  The kids have a lot of fun making treats, too--if you are brave enough to let them in the kitchen!  Start your planning now!!!!

Drivers for the field trip: Berberian, Richardson, Ramirez, Nelson, Hutchings

Children needing car seat/booster seat: Paiten, Josh C., Jordan, both Brookes, Caster

Hosts for Valentine’s Day Party: Claire, Brooke Ray

A message from Boosters:

HELP WANTED! As you know the auction is rapidly approaching. One of the things that makes our auction so successful is the donations that we receive from our community. We are looking for a few outgoing upbeat and motivated people to go out into our community to ask for donations. We have a list of business that have previously been contacted as well as donated that we work from. Each volunteer will be given a sheet of maybe 10-12 local business to contact and request donations from.  That way it is not overwhelming to you and we can keep a list of what has been done to hopefully avoid hitting up the same company twice. If you are interested, please let us know! Another reason our auctions are so successful are willing parents, grandparents, friends and families just like you who are willing to volunteer your time. Thanks so much.
