Communication

COMMUNICATION

Communication between home and school is very important! Every
Monday you will receive a newsletter that will keep you informed
of our classroom activities. You will also receive your child's
weekly behavior report. This report needs to be signed by the
child and a parent or guardian and returned in the folder the
next day.
The class newsletter will include the week’s memory verse
and spelling words. Any field trip permission slips and monthly
book orders will be sent home in your child’s folder. Notes may
come home at other times, too as needed. So each night, empty
your child’s folder and check for any notes that may require your
immediate attention.Be sure you read everything in your child's
folder that way you will stay fully informed and not miss
anything vital.

If a question or problem arises, or you are concerned
with something that has happened in the classroom, please contact
me. I can be reached at school until 4:00 everyday after school.
After that time you may leave a message on my voice mail@ 734-
7694 ext.16. I will respond as quickly as possible. You may also
email me by clicking on my name on the side of this page. This
will take you to an email form.
FOLDERS

Your children will have a pocket folder, which they will
bring home everyday. All papers will be sent home in this folder
including homework, school newsletter, class newsletter (Monday),
and chapel offering bag or important notes. They will need to
bring their folder to school everyday!!! They will not have the
large envelopes as they did in Kindergarten so you may want to
consider purchasing a small backpack.

Snacks

SNACK

We do not have a snack time in first grade, however
during the first few weeks of school I will provide one graham
cracker that they can eat during the first few minutes of recess.
Each child will be asked to send in 3 boxes each trimester.

Class parties

We will celebrate Christmas, Easter and Valentine’s Day with
class parties. We will also have a fall/harvest party. It would
be great if someone would like to organize one or all of these. I
usually send home a list of items that will be needed for the
party and everyone signs up to bring one or more of those items.

Birthdays

This year at school we will celebrate birthdays in class at 2:15
in the afternoon. Children with birthdays during the summer
months will get to celebrate “unbirthdays”. Your child may bring
a treat to share with the class-cupcakes, cookies, donuts, etc.
Please save more elaborate celebrations such as treat bags and
balloons for a party outside of school time. Your child might
like to give a gift to the class (such as a book for the class
library) in honor of their birthday.

Field trips

We will be taking a few field trips. These fieldtrips will include
PETCO,Enchanted Theater,Spirit 88.9 radio station and In-N-Out
Parent drivers will be requested and I hope that you will get to
go along with us at least once this year if your schedule allows it.
If you have field trip ideas, please let me know!

Sharing can

Instead of the usual “show and tell”, we will have a sharing can.
The students will take turns bringing the can home. Your child
should find something unique or interesting to put into the can.
Then, with your help, 3 clues should be written. Go over the
clues with your child (and I will help him/her in school.) Your
child will return the bag the next school day, with great
secrecy, and read the clues while the others guess.

Toys

Toys should not be brought to school. We have toys for the
classroom and other equipment for recess. This helps prevent lost
or broken toys and hurt feelings.
