Welcome back, everyone! We are off and running in many directions as we try
to cover all of the skills involved in Language Arts. It's been a busy two
weeks spent doing assessment tests, reviewing grammar, writing poetry, and
learning new vocabulary.
CLASSROOM UPDATES
8th grade: Eighth graders will be starting to work on writing their
testimonies right after Labor Day. By the time they leave for D.C., they will
have turned in their first rough draft. This is a very important step in
their faith journey as they evaluate for themselves what the Lord has done
for them personally and how close their walk with Him has grown.
7th grade: Seventh graders will be starting their first novel right after
Labor Day. Each week they will be assigned several chapters in Where the
Lilies Bloom and be responsible for writing some responses to questions on
those chapters. There will be quizzes each week to make sure they are keeping
up with their reading.
As always, please be checking the class calendar for all of the current due
dates and expectations. Thank you!
AR REQUIREMENTS:
8th grade: The students will need to read three AR requirements by the end of
the first trimester. The requirements are a historical fiction, a classic,
and a fantasy/science fiction. The first deadline is Tuesday, September 6.
The second deadline is October 17, and the final AR book is due November 7.
The students should be reading every single day.
7th grade: Seventh graders have two AR requirements for the first trimester,
both of which are free choice. The first deadline is September 6, and the
other book is due Nov.7.
REMEMBER: Students who are not current with their AR requirements will not
be eligible to play in the weekly sports games.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR
We will be rehearsing twice every week, once on Tuesday afternoons, and once
on Wednesday mornings. Our Christmas musical this year is "It All Happened
in the Country." Auditions for 8th grade will be Friday, September 9, and
after-school rehearsals will begin the following week.
GIRLS OF GRACE
The eighth grade girls' Bible study group will meet each Thursday at 7:45
a.m. in my classroom. Please pray for us as we search God's Word for His
plan for our lives. I'm really looking forward to spending this time with the
girls.
