Does my child have snack recess?

No. First graders do not have snack recess because our morning
recess is from 10:10-10:25 and our lunch is at 11:30. Therefore,
we encourage our first graders to eat a big, healthy breakfast.
It is our hope that by not having a snack at the 10:10 recess,
the children will eat their lunch.

Can I bring a treat for my child's birthday?

No. Because of the growing number of food allergies, First Grade
has gone birthday "treat-free". Instead of bringing a snack, your
child may bring in a special sharing: a favorite book, toy,
trophy, etc. No pets, please.

Can I distribute children's party invitations at school?

Out of sensitivity to all the children, party invitations may be
placed in children's cubbies only if ALL the children in the
classroom are invited to the party.

What if my child forgets his/her homework?

Everyone forgets once in a while, so the first time your child
forgets his/her homework I will remind him/her to bring it
in the following day. Please encourage your child to accept
responsibility for returning his/her completed homework on time.
It is never too early to instill good work habits!

How do I know if my child is reading a book at the appropriate level?

A quick test would be to have your child read aloud one page. If
your child makes three or more mistakes, the book is too
difficult and an easier book should be chosen. However, perhaps
the harder book can be a book for you to read aloud to your child.

What happens if my child forgets his/her lunch?

We suggest always having at least five dollars credit on your
child's lunch card, just in case of such an emergency. If your
child does not have a packed lunch, cash, or credit on his/her
lunch card,he/she is given a cheese sandwich and milk.

What do I do if my child is late to school?

If your child is late to school, please park in an appropriate
parking spot (if driving) and walk with your child into the
office. Check him/her in at the front office by signing the
attendance book and filling out a pink tardy pass that your child
gives to the teacher upon entering the classroom.

What do I do if I need to pick my child up from school early?

Please go to the front office, sign your child out, and someone
in the office will call your child's classroom.

Are siblings allowed on field trips?

No. As a parent chaperone, you are responsible for the safety of
those students assigned to you. Siblings can be a distraction of
your attention and can also interfere with the learning
environment of the field trip.

Can my child receive enrichment homework?

Please use the links provided on my website for enrichment
activities that will meet your child's individual needs. There
are also several great teacher stores in the area that can
provide great enrichment materials.
