Top Ten Things Parents Need to Know About
Kindergarten
1. Class times are: Extended Day 8:15 -
12:30. Adjusted Days and Wacky Wednesday 8:15-11:45. Be sure your child is
lined up, with backpack hung up and red folder and homework in his/her hands.
2. Tennis shoes are preferred every day,
but required on Thursdays for P.E. (Motor Development). Long hair should be
tied back and girls shouldn't wear dresses.
3. Bring snack daily. Pack healthy and easy
to open food. Kids Country lunch should be packed separately. During the
extended day schedule, recess and snack are split up. Recess is at 9:55-10:15
and snack is at 11:15-11:25.
4. Birthday invitations can't be delivered
at school, unless everyone is invited. You may bring non-edible treats to
share on your child's birthday.
5. Library day is on Monday, 11:25-12:00.
Your child's book must be returned each week in order to check out a new one.
6. Homework will be sent home on Wednesdays
and is due on the following Wednesday. Be sure and check backpack daily for
other papers and notices.
7. Please be aware of and help your child
to practice proper pencil grip and proper letter formation (top to bottom).
For name writing: first letter capital, the rest lower case. Please practice
cutting with scissors, too.
8. Reading to your child each day is part
of Kindergarten homework. We will begin a monthly Lap Reading chart. Watch for
the chart and directions to come home. Be sure to keep all your child's little
reader books in the decorated shoe box. Your student can and should be
encouraged to read these books to you often.
9. If your child is going home with
someone, please send a dated and signed note that morning or call the office
if it's an emergency.
10. We are planning four field trips -
Fairyland in Sept., Pumpkin Patch in Oct., Lindsay Museum Owls (they come to
us), and Tilden Park Farm in the spring.
