What is the HOMEWORK POLICY?

Homework is assigned nightly Monday-Thursday and is due the following day,
unless otherwise noted, such as math. Math homework is corrected the next day
but collected on Thursday. Late assignments will be accepted with penalty.
Occasionally, students will be assigned weekend homework. Reasons could be
due to short weeks from extra days off, completion of class projects,
studying for upcoming tests, or from incomplete classwork. Finally, part of
my homework policy is to provide parents with 10 Homework Passes, to be used
during the year. The passes are given to parent at Back to School Night and
NO REPLACEMENTS ARE ISSUED IF THEY ARE LOST!

The average student should spend an 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours on homework plus
some silent reading time. Students are different in how they use time, their
abilities, and their patience. If your child is spending a lot of
time on homework, please call or email me.

How is middle school MATH PLACEMENT determined?

In the month of May, 5th grade students will take a formal, district math
placement assessment to determine if s/he will be placed into Intro to 6th
grade math, Advanced 6th grade math, or Advanced 7th grade Pre-Algebra.
These assessments are scored by the district and teachers will be notified
of students placement into the Intro class or Advanced 6th grade. 7th grade
Pre-algebra placements are determined by an additional assessment, students
who scored high enough on the first assessment will be invited to take the
7th grade pre-algebra assessment. This assessment is also scored by the
district and teachers will be notified of the results. The district will
also mail a letter home regarding the results.
