Does my child have snack recess?
No. First graders do not have snack recess because our morning recess is from
10:10-10:25 and our lunch is at 11:30. Therefore, we encourage our first
graders to eat a big, healthy breakfast. It is our hope that by not having a
snack at the 10:10 recess, the children will eat their lunch.
Can I bring a treat for my child's birthday?
No. Because of the growing number of food allergies, First Grade
has gone birthday "treat-free". Instead of bringing a snack, your
child may bring in a special sharing: a favorite book, toy,
trophy, etc.
What if my child forgets his/her homework?
Everyone forgets once in a while, so the first time your child forgets his/her
homework I will remind him/her to bring it in the following day. Please
encourage your child to accept responsibility for returning his/her completed
homework on time. It is never too early to instill good work habits!
How do I know if my child is reading a book at his/her appropriate level?
A quick test would be to have your child read aloud one page. If your child
makes three or more mistakes, the book is too difficult and an
easier book needs to be chosen.
What if my child forgets his/her lunch?
In case of an emergency (forgotten lunch), we suggest always having at least
five dollars on your child's lunch card. If your child does not have a lunch
or money, he/she is given a cheese sandwich and milk.
What do I do if my child is late to school?
If your child is late to school, he/she must check in at the front office
and he/she will receive a pink tardy pass that is to be given to the classroom
teacher.
What do I do if I need to pick my child up from school early?
Please go to the front office, sign your child out and someone in the office
will call your child's classroom.
Are siblings allowed on field trips?
No. As a parent chaparone, you are responsible for the safety of those
students assigned to you. Siblings can be a distraction that interfere with
the learning environment of the field trip.
Any questions about your child's V.I.P. Week?
Please see the V.I.P. Week (Very Important Person) tab to see your child's
scheduled week. Please refer to your Back to School Night Packet for a
detailed description of your child's V.I.P. Week activities!
Can my child receive enrichment homework?
Please use the links provided on my website for enrichment activities that
will meet your child's individual needs. There are also several great
teacher stores in the area that can provide great enrichment materials.
What is the policy for parent volunteers and visits?
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer. The staff likes to monitor
who is on campus. Therefore, please SIGN IN at the school office and receive
a sticker/badge for all visits, regardless of the length of time you plan on
being at the school.
