Classroom Policies and Procedures

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to the sixth grade! In order to better acquaint you with the sixth grade program, read the following for my policies and expectations for the year.

DAILY PREPARATION: Make sure you are organized everyday!

Bring your stocked binder, textbooks, and any other supplies needed each and every day. All assignments are to be written down daily in your “Binder Reminder.” There will be no phone calls home for forgotten homework, books, lunches, or P.E. clothes. Students will learn to be responsible! Prepared students arrive to school on time with all materials!

THE HALE “BINDER REMINDER”: The key to organization and success!

The Hale “Binder Reminder” is a student assignment notebook that must be brought to class every day. Students are expected to write down all assignments, project due dates, as well as quiz and test dates. The “Binder Reminder” will be checked periodically. Parents should check the “Binder Reminder” as well, which serves as a communication tool between school and home, especially for students who need additional organizational supervision.

DISCIPLINE POLICY: Treat others the way you want to be treated!

Always follow the rules posted in our classrooms and in the “Binder Reminder” Students are expected to be on their best behavior. Students who choose to exhibit appropriate behavior will be rewarded for doing so. Students who choose to disrupt the learning environment will have consequences to follow. Parents will be kept informed about their child’s behavior choices through notes, emails, or phone calls home as needed.

HOMEWORK: A huge responsibility!

Homework in all core subjects is to be expected Monday – Thursday. All homework, unless otherwise stated, is to be turned in the next day. Assignments not finished in class will be finished that evening as well. Late work will not be accepted unless there is an absence or a note from a parent. Students are responsible for all make-up work.

REPORTS OF INFORMATION: Academic progress reported!

Every 5 weeks, a progress report or report card will be brought home, or sent in the mail. Students will receive completed / corrected work, graded tests and projects on a regular basis in class. All returned work is to be placed in the student’s binder. In addition to grades, progress and report cards will also include information on attendance, quality of work, effort, responsibility, behavior, and citizenship. Teachers will additionally make every effort to update grades between grading periods. Information regarding academic progress, missing assignments, classroom behavior, project / test dates, and upcoming events will be made available via the teachers web sites.
