Scholastic Book Order Due Feb. 17th-Online or in class
.
New Semester!!  You now know the Hale routine so lets keep up on assignments.  Second semester seems to go faster with STAR testing, field trips and spring break so make each day count.  Parents, our class is in desperate need of Clorox wipes, kleenez, copy paper, glue sticks, hand held hole punches for our G/L root words, and scotch tape!!  If you can help us out with any of these items it wou

ld truly be appreciated! Thank you! You are the Best!!
"That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the nature of the thing has changed but our ability to do, has increased."

This weekend, Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th  many of the museums in the Los Angeles area are FREE!  Some of my favorites are on the list.  Go to www.museumsla.org

for move information.  I have offered my students extra credit if they visit one of the museums, write up a paragraph of what they observed or learned, have it signed by a parent with proof of attendance (ticket or paper if you get one).  Semester grades need to be in next week so this will be the last points available. Also, January Scholastic Book orders are due Now!  Go online or bring your order into class by Thursday of this week!  http://pcool.scholastic.com/parentordering/login.jsp

Happy New Year!  I hope each of you had a refreshing winter break.  It is nice to have you back for more 6th grade adventures.
We are in the last few weeks of the first semester.  15 week progress reports went home the final school day in Dec.  They should be signed by a parent and returned for verification. The next report card (20 week) will be put on each students permanent record.   I encourage each of you to give your very best this last stretch.
Important Note: Second semester, students will no longer be allowed to turn in or redo extrememly late work.  Work must be timely.  I was very lenient first sememster but you are now well aware of middle school expectations.  Turn work in on time!

January Scholastic book orders due by the 20th.  You may order online or bring in to class.

Extended!! Service Hour of Giving yourself away due when you get back from winter break.  Have your parent sign your paragraph describing your experience.  Toys for Tots.  Bring any unused or new toys to school for Children who will not receive otherwise. Canned Food Drive is still going on.  Bring cans, boxes of food for the less fortunate.
December Scholastic Book Order going in on Thursday 8th. As always if you order on line we get $3 to spend on our class library!   Here's the link and activation code if you have never ordered online

Thursday, Sept. 29th No School

Thank you for the classroom donations!  It sure does help us!

Students received a print out today of their assignments and grades for this first 5 weeks.  Please look it over, sign and return.  Students know they are allowed to retake a test they did poorly on and have their grades averaged in.  I will be giving the history hominid retest on Thursday during nutrition for anyone wishing to retake it.  I have also allowed work to come in late and be redone for this first five week period.  I am surprised that more students have not taken advantage of this opportunity to raise their grade.  They may still do this up through this week.  If a student is absent it is their responsibility to make up the work missed.  It has been a great start to a great year.  I hope my students are becoming more responsible, better organized, and taking classes and assignments 'one bite at a time,' each day doing what needs to be done and not leaving things to the last minute.

What a great turn out for Back to School!  I enjoyed meeting all the parents of my wonderful students.  Now I know why they are so amazing!  Some important reminders:
Picture Day Wed. Sept 28th, bring envelopes
PTSA membership being collected
Skateland, Tues. Sept. 27th 3-6pm - $5
Magazine drive is still going on

Welcome to Hale! Sixth grade is going to be a great adventure. This year we are going to visit amazing places and learn to do wonderful things right within our own classroom. I feel so privileged to be one of your learning guides as you discover places and ideas you have never known before. You will learn about the world we live in both in ancient
times and happenings today. Your command of the English Language will grow as you learn to express yourself better orally as well as in the written word. You will become more of an independent thinker as you help direct your individual learning quests.

Each day I will bring my very best to stretch your mind and help you form habits that will help you succeed well in life. I ask that you come prepared with an eager, open mind to learn. and that you take time to share with your families what we are learning. I look forward to getting to know each of you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Tanya Ball
