The Three Ring Binder
The Key to Middle School Organization!

Your teachers require a three-ring binder because it is the best and
most flexible tool to organize materials, keep track of homework, and
other important information. With a three-ring binder, material can
be added in the proper order, or removed when no longer necessary.
The binder should be large enough to hold loose materials in a pouch,
to contain all subject areas by dividers and to store extra notebook
paper.

Successful students attend class with the proper materials—covered
textbooks, binder, pen, pencil, paper, “Binder Reminder” and
homework. Paper folders will only perpetuate disorganization and are
unacceptable.

HOW TO ORGANIZE THE THREE-RING BINDER:
1.	Place the pen / pencil pouch and the “Binder Reminder” in the
front of the binder.

2.	Keep the binder and pen / pencil pouch stocked at all times.
Re-supply materials as they are needed. This is the student’s
responsibility!

3.	Make tabbed dividers for each subject in the same order as
your class schedule.

4.	Hole punch all handouts, quizzes, project directions, and
additional material given to you by your teacher or printed out from
the web-site and place in sequence.

5.	When you have completed a unit or chapter, remove material
from the binder and file at home for future reference. Do not throw
away until after Report Cards are issued! (It is the only way you
can locate missing work items! To err is human, and we’re human!)

6.	Always maintain an extra supply of notebook paper in the
binder. Restock as needed.

7.	Keep the binder neat so that anyone can find the right
material in the correct place. Binders will be checked
periodically. There will be covered book checks and correcting pen
checks for grades as well!

If the binder was shaken from the rings, would everything remain
inside?

It is the student’s responsibility to keep an organized and properly
stocked binder. Parents are encouraged to check their child’s
binder regularly.
