About Mrs. Elder
About Mrs. Elder...
Mrs. Elder was born on March 27th in Oakland, California. She grew up in Lafayette, not far from Pleasanton! She attended Burton Valley Elementary School, Stanley Junior High and Campolindo High School. Mrs. Elder ventured south for college and graduated from the University of Southern California in 1998 with a BA in Psychology. In an effort to be a bit different, she decided to attend USC's rival, UCLA, for graduate school where she earned a multiple subject teaching credential and a Master's degree in Education. Mrs. Elder immediately began her teaching career following graduation and spent six exciting years teaching 5th grade in Los Angeles. Wanting to be closer to family, Mrs. Elder and her husband decided to move back to the Bay Area in early 2005, at which point she began teaching at Hearst Elementary. She feels very fortunate to be a part of the Hearst community. Mrs. Elder believes it is her job to help her students acquire the skills necessary to function effectively in our current world and society. Helping her students improve their organizational and time management skills and helping them broaden their general knowledge base is a large focus of her classroom plan.
While teaching is a large part of Mrs. Elder's life, family is her most cherished blessing. On February 12, 2008, John Richard "Jack" Elder was born and two and a half years later on August 17, 2010, Blake Thomas Elder joined her family making them a happy, boisterous, and energetic family of four.
When Mrs. Elder isn't chasing Jack-Jack or Blakey around the house, spending time at the pool, or taking her boys to one of their activities, she enjoys taking long walks, traveling (particularly to seaside/lake locations), watching glorious sunsets, reading a good book or magazine, collecting inspirational quotes, taking a good nap, watching movies, dabbling in photography, gabbing with friends, and basically ANYTHING that involves spending time with her husband and two sons ("My Boys"). When Mrs. Elder has time off from teaching she can often be spotted vacationing in Southern California or Lake Tahoe-- two of her favorite places on earth besides the beautiful Bay Area!
