Is there homework every night, and, if so, how much?

It is essential for students to practice the skills they learn in the
classroom each evening. There is homework 5 nights per week. Homework should
take, on average, between 30 minutes and 60 minutes each night.

What is a good strategy for studying for tests and quizzes?

Students should look over their notes to review vocabulary words, formulas and
class discussions. They should go over the warm-up problems as well as the
homework assignments by doing corrections to any problem that has yet to be
corrected.
Also, there are problems at the back of each chapter as well as the back of
the book for extra practice.

Is it OK to use a calculator for my homework?

Many of the homework problems that are assigned are designed to practice the
mathematical skills necessary for the grade level. By using a calculator, the
students miss out on that valuable practice that will help them in future
chapters. There are, however, specific assignments throughout the year where
we will be using calculators.

Can I turn in late homework for credit?

There is no credit for late homework. Although students are encouraged to
bring the assignment to class so that they can check their work and their
solutions.

Extra help is available in my room, Room 27, in the morning, and after school.
I stay on campus until about 4pm.

What if I am absent, can I still make up the work?

If a student is absent, he or she will be given an appropriate amount of time
to make up the assignment. For example, if a student is absent for one day,
they will have one extra day to make up the work. If the assignment is not
turned in, the resulting grade is a zero.

Why do I have to get my chapter tests signed by a parent?

The parent signature is worth three points of extra credit. Along with the
signature, I am hoping to inspire a discussion about each chapter test between
parents and child.

What is the best way to be successful in math?

Homework is number one! If you complete the homework each night, using your
notes and warm-ups to help you with even the most difficult problems, you will
do well in math. The problems on the quizzes and the tests are directly
related to the homework problems that I assign each night.

What do I do if I get a 'REDO' on my homework?

If you are given a 'REDO' on an assignment, you have the opportunity to
complete the assignment that night, and turn it in the next day (along with
the regular assignment given). Use your notes and book to help complete the
Redo assignment.

When & What are the notebook checks?

Notebook checks are done towards the end of each trimester. The 3-ring binder
is collected and checked for organization, neatness, and thoroughness.
Students are responsible for keeping warm-ups, homeworks, and notes organized,
completed and corrected throughout the entire trimester. It is worth 50 points.
