Mr. Hazard ~ 2011-2012
The purpose of this course is to introduce mathematical concepts appropriate to the grade level.
The subject matter of the course will parallel the California Mathematics Content Standards. Students
will understand the following concepts:
• Rational numbers, irrational numbers
• Measurement concepts, the metric system
• Multi-step equations and expressions
• Problem solving
• Graphing of linear equations
• Geometric constructions and properties
ASSESSMENT AND GRADING:
Grades will consist of the following, and will be based on the following point scale:
• Homework Quizzes (15 points each)
• Chapter Tests (100 points)
• Chapter Quizzes (20-25 points)
• Projects (points vary)
• Participation/Citizenship Grade *
* Active participation in the classroom is an essential part of learning.
This includes class discussions and cooperative efforts.
HOMEWORK:
Homework will be assigned each night. Each assignment will be corrected and discussed in class.
Students will need to correct every missed problem on their homework before the scheduled
Homework Quiz. Each Homework Quiz will cover the 5 previous assignments. During the quiz, the
student will have access to those 5 assignments and will need to copy all the work required on one
randomly chosen problem from each assignment. Each Homework Quiz is worth 15 points.
Students must show ALL of their work ALL of the time to receive full credit.
SUPPLIES:
• 3 ring binder (at least 1.5”)
• 6 dividers for binder
• 2 mechanical pencils with extra lead
• Mini-stapler
• 2 pens for correcting
• Lined paper, graph paper
• 1 straight edge
CLASSROOM RULES:
These rules are designed to allow each and every student the opportunity to maximize their learning
experience.
• Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
• Follow the rules and guidelines for the classroom at all times.
• Complete homework and class work on time.
• Be respectful of those working around you.
