Why it is Important Not to pull Your Child Out of School

How many parents have told their child that, for now, going to school IS their job?

How many parents have pulled their child out of school for a day or two to go on a trip?

Are summer vacations still being planned in August knowing that the child will miss several critical days of instruction?

Is this a mixed message to the child? YES!

Pulling a child out of school to start a vacation early or for some other fun activity sends the message to the child that the activity is more of a priority than their job, going to school.

But it is only one or two days a year (or a week in August), right?

One missed day of school can mean two days of falling behind for your child. Missing school makes it more difficult for a child to learn to stay on track with assignments.  Every day in school is another chance for a child to learn something new. Most children need to repeat something new at least seven times before they learn it properly.  And more importantly long-term is the fact that the subtle message-school isn’t that important- is being repeated to your child.

Not only does the child lose but the district and therefore other children lose, too. Last year the Oakley Union Elementary School lost over $330,000 because of these types of absences.  Without this loss we could have saved 5.5 teaching positions this year, thereby lowering class sizes and providing other benefits to our students.  In other words you have more control over our revenue than we do!

Regular school attendance is important to getting the most out of school. Success in school now leads to success in life later.

Make every day count—keep your child learning in school.

What You Can Do to Model the Importance of Prompt Daily Attendance

  • Help them understand why it is important to go to school each day and attend every class
  • Help them get to school on time
  • Set good examples & habits and enforce rules
  • Get to know your child’s teacher and school and communicate with them regularly
  • Schedule family commitments or vacations when school is out
  • Contact the school if your child will be absent

Porque es Importante No retirar a Su Hijo de la Escuela

¿Cuántos padres le han dicho a su hijo/a que, por ahora, el ir a la escuela ES su trabajo?

¿Cuántos padres han retirado a sus hijos a la escuela durante un día o dos para ir de viaje?

¿Están las vacaciones de verano todavía siendo planificadas para agosto sabiendo que el niño/a omitirá varios días críticos de la enseñanza?

¿Es este un mensaje confuso para el niño/a? ¡SI!

El retirar a un niño de la escuela para iniciar unas vacaciones tempranas o para realizar alguna otra actividad divertida envía el mensaje al niño que la actividad es más importante que su trabajo, ir a la escuela.  

Pero sólo es uno o dos días al año (o una semana en agosto), ¿verdad?

Un día de clases perdido puede significar dos días de retraso para su hijo/a. Faltar a la escuela hace que sea más difícil para un niño/a aprender a permanecer al corriente con sus trabajos. Todos los días de clases son otra oportunidad para que el niño/a aprenda algo nuevo. La mayoría de los niños necesitan repetir algo nuevo por lo menos siete veces antes de aprenderlo correctamente. Y lo más importante a largo plazo es el hecho de que, a su hijo/a se le está repitiendo el mensaje de escuela-no es tan importante.

 No sólo pierde el niño/a, sino que pierde el distrito y por ende también pierden los demás niños. El año pasado La Escuela Primaria de la Unión de Oakley  perdió más de $330,000 dólares a causa de este tipo de ausencias. Sin esta pérdida se pudo haber preservado 5.5 posiciones de educación de este año, lo que reduce el tamaño de las clases y la proporción de otros beneficios a nuestros alumnos. ¡En otras palabras, usted tiene más control sobre nuestros ingresos que nosotros!

La asistencia regular a la escuela es importante para obtener el máximo rendimiento de la escuela. El éxito en la escuela ahora lleva posteriormente al éxito en la vida.

Haga que cada día cuente—mantenga a su hijo/a aprendiendo en la escuela.

Lo Que Usted Puede Hacer Para Modelar La Importancia De La Asistencia Puntual Diaria

  • Ayúdeles a comprender por qué es importante ir a la escuela diariamente y de asistir a todas las clases
  • Ayúdeles a llegar a la escuela a tiempo
  • Establezca Buenos ejemplos & hábitos, también haga cumplir las reglas
  • Conozca al profesor/a de su hijo/a así como la escuela y comuníquese con ellos regularmente
  • Programe los compromisos familiares o las vacaciones cuando no hay clases
Contacte a la escuela si su hijo estará ausente
