Welcome

Welcome to 5th Grade!  It is always so exciting to begin a new school year with a new group of students. I'm sure many of you have questions about what 5th grade is all about. Below you will find what we will study throughout the year.

Literacy
We will cover 7 Units of Study throughout the year. These units will include learning about and creating: feature articles, memoirs, response to text, character analysis, story elements, gathering credible information from text, editorials, persuasive text, poetry, research papers.  We will do a lot of writing throughout the school year. I will break it down and give students an opportunity to understand what the purpose of the writing is and give them several "formulas" to use to help them get started.

What better way to learn how to deal with our future than to look back at our past? Some of the fascinating topics we will cover this year include: a quick review of Native American life(their customs and folklore, and how their lives changed as new settlers appeared), Explorers, The Colonial Era, American Revolution, U.S. Constitution, as well as learn the location of the 50 states and their capitals.

I am excited about our school year together! I look forward to getting to know all and guide you towards a successful school year. Here's to an enjoyable and educational year!
