Per. 5 English 8 GATE HOMEWORK

HOMEWORK for English 8 GATE (Period 5)-- students should expect 
20-30 minutes of homework Monday-Thursday and occasionally on 
weekends; be sure to be READING your independent reading book (you need 
to read at least 2,000 pages each semester).

This week's homework...
   MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16th: Find at least 3 reliable on-line sources tonight (plus at
least 2 books) for your Research Paper. (NO Wikipedia, no Answers.com)

   TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17th: Read through your sources (for your Americana Research)
and continue to take notes on the info. you find (continue to spend time on your own besides
classtime researching)

   WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th: Read through your sources (for your Americana Research)
and continue to take notes on the info. you find (continue to spend time on your own besides
classtime researching)

   THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19th: Work on your Thesis Statement and on your
Outline (for your Americana Research Paper)-- these are both due by Tue. 11/24/09; 
Read through your sources (for your Americana Research) and continue to take notes on 
the info. you find (continue to spend time on your own besides classtime researching)

   MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd:  Write your thesis statement & type your outline for the 
Americana Research Paper (due Tue. 11/ 24/09)

* If you've been absent, be sure you are working on researching info. for your 
Americana research paper & monologue.

* Your Research Paper Thesis Statement & Outline are due by Tuesday, Nov. 24th
in English classes.

* Check your grades-- click on "GRADES", type in your last name and 
under "Password" type in your Student ID#

* We've chosen our Americana Research topic on Friday, November 13th in 
GATE English classes. 

* Americana Performances (for GATE History and GATE English) will be on 
Thursday, Feb. 4th and Friday, Feb. 5th. (Please see the "Calendar" section of this
website for more dates.) We have a mandatory dress rehearsal all day Sat. Jan. 30th. 
There will be other rehearsals during the Saturdays in January. Students will be 
researching a historical era/group/person; the thesis statement & outline for the 
research paper is due Tue. 11/24/09, the 3-4 page (typed) research paper rough draft 
will be due Fri. 12/4/09 & the final draft will be due Thur. 12/10/09; the monologue that 
students will write will be due Thur. 12/17/09.

book you want to share and discuss with the class on Tue. 11/10/09); read
your independent reading book. Reading Logs will be checked on Fri. 11/13/09
(and you need at to have read at least 1,000 pages so far)

   TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th: Read your independent reading book; 
Work on  the typed Letter (from the Grand Conversation) due Fri. 11/13; 
think about your top 3 choices for your Americana Research (we're
selecting our topics on Fri. 11/13/09 in English classes). Reading Logs will 
be checked on Fri. 11/13/09 (and you need at to have read at least 
1,000 pages so far)

   WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11th: Read & enjoy the day!

   THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12th: Finish the typed Letter (from the Grand Conversation)
due Fri. 11/13; finalize your top 3 choices for your Americana Research (we're
selecting our topics on Fri. 11/13/09 in English classes)
