Grades are NOT GIVEN by TEACHERS but EARNED by STUDENTS!
The student's grade is a combination of all class work, homework, projects,
as well as all tests and quizzes. Only students who have no missing
assignments will be given the oportunity to improve their grade through extra
credit work (a list of choices is posted in my classroom), but they cannot
earn more than 50 extra credit points each semester. For information on late
work or make-up work, please see the "Classroom Policies page".
Students will receive points for assignments completed in class and at home,
and those points will then be converted into weighted grades based on the
following categories:
German 1 German 2 German 3 German 4AP
homework: 25% 20% 15% 15%
class work: 20% 20% 30% 30%
tests & quizzes: 30% 30% 25% 25%
participation*: 15% 20% 20% 20%
projects**: 10% 10% 10% 10%
* includes class participation, oral final (interviews), notebooks (all
levels) and Cultural Participation Research points (German 2/3 Honors only)
** includes all projects and extra credit points
The final grade is determined according to the following percentages:
100% - 90% A
89% - 80% B
79% - 70% C
69% - 60% D
below 60% F
Tests and quizzes are given within each unit and are usually announced. Pop
quizzes may be given if homework is not taken seriously or if I receive
a bad report from a substitute.
I update grades on AERIES (ABI) regularly and I encourage you to check often
so that you can follow up on your son or daughter's progress.
Upon request, or if a student is having difficulties in the class, I will
e-mail/send home an individual student grade update. It will list each grade
the student earned until that point in the class, any missing assignments as
well as the current overall grade.
If you have any questions regarding your son or daughter's grade, please
contact me through e-mail (dpicciotta@fjuhsd.net) or call me at school
(562)266-5252. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
