Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to Student-Led Conferences. It means a lot to me to see
you take time out of your busy day to walk around your child's classrooms. It means more to your kid!
At this point, your child is finishing up with their second class novel, either The Glory Field or The Witch
of Blackbird Pond. Both books are historical fictions that take place in America and therefore set the
path for our 8th grade year in history. Students are finishing up the Unit on characterization this week
and will be beginning the unit on setting next week. In a few weeks, students will be joining every 8th
grader in Woodland in reading The Outsiders. One of my favorites.
In US History, we will be learning about the constitution in the next few weeks and finishing the current
simulation on Creating a Nation. Students will be writing constitutions in their groups and sharing with
the class. This has been an enjoyable process.
As a reminder, your child should always have a book. It is again our goal
that every child reads a million words this year. It's best if time is set
aside daily so that your child has time to read, or be read to.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
