Homework will be for no more than forty minutes everyday with the exceptions
of Fridays. On occasion, projects will be assigned over the weekend or make-
up work may be completed. If homework is completed well before the forty
minutes is over, you are expected to read. A timer should be set to prepare
for the amount of time needed to complete high quality work. If only one ten-
minute assignment is given on any day, that assignment should take thirty
minutes and be the best work you could have done. I assign work based on how
long I believe it would take to do a good job. If you are a fast worker, I
hope you love to read!
Homework is due at the beginning of each class. Completed homework awards
you daily points, if not recorded in the grade-book, certainly in my head.
Although we go over homework, it must be noted that not every assignment is
collected and graded. There are no excuses for NO homework. If you feel you
have a reason for your missed homework you may speak to me before the bell or
at the end of class. When problems arise with difficult homework, I would
like to see effort in completing it and if still it was not possible to
complete, your effort will be noted.
When students are absent (and hopefully this is rare) they should first, and
most importantly, get the missed class work and homework from the board.
Extra worksheets are readily available on the shelves. Then, if one needs
clarification and other worksheets, they should see me after class. I do not
approach students when they have been absent. I will, with ample warning,
prepare homework packets for students who are out ill; however, I will not
create packets for the students who repeatedly miss school.
Students who complete their homework in a timely and conscientious manner
will do very well in my classes. The homework reflects what we are doing
daily and is almost always formally tested at the end of the week. When the
homework is not complete, students will fail all around. Completing homework
is a great way to stay focused, disciplined and on top of your work!
