A homework folder goes home every Monday through Thursday. This is a great way to communicate with me. I look over the homework folders everyday. The most important homework is the reading calendar. Please be sure your child is reading each night and initial the reading calendar. Make it a fun, quality time. If your child is extra tired one evening, it is perfectly fine to read him/her a story and/or choral read parts of the story together. Research shows that choral reading is an excellent way to help children gain fluency and oral expression.Besides reading there is a Saxon math worksheet that goes home once or twice a week. Always have your child complete it and return all homework by Friday.Check out the cover page each week for other Language Arts activities. All homework is due by Friday. The state requirement for 1st grade is homework that is no longer then 15 minutes each night. Homework should be an independent practice. If you find your child is frustrated and/or taking too long to complete their homework, please stop and jot me a note about the situation. As a parent myself, I am very aware of the of quality time with your child. Homework should be a pleasant time in which parent and child review the lessons and concepts that have been previously taught.
