Room 11Classified News
February
Dear Room 11 Families,
Happy February! We are officially halfway through our 2nd trimester. Progress Reports will be sent home to students on Friday, February 3rd. Students will only receive a progress report if they are below standard.
Here is what we will be working on this month…
MATH
We are progressing quite well in math. This month we are working on fractions, decimals, and percents. Specifically, we are working on writing fractions in their simplest forms and forming equivalent fractions as well as converting fractions to decimals and percents.
READING
This month we began our literature unit on The Witch of Blackbird Pond. This novel is closely aligned to our Colonies unit in Social Studies. Just reminder, students are expected to read 30 minutes each night. The deadline to meet 2nd trimester AR goals is March 8th!
WRITING
We are currently working on persuasive writing. We are focusing on supporting our arguments with evidence and facts as well as reviewing paragraph structure. Our next writing unit will begin in mid-February. Next, we will be focusing on Response to Literature. Students will be given new spelling word lists for the month. Just a reminder, students are expected to complete 3 activities and a practice test for each spelling word list.
SCIENCE
We recently completed our unit on Compounds. We are currently working on States of Matter. There is a wonderful website available that can be used to review for science tests. The web address is: http://www.eduplace.com/science/hmsc/ca/5/. The link can be accessed on my class website links page as well.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We are continuing our 13 Colonies unit in Social Studies. We just finished filming our movie and can’t wait to show it to you all at Open House. We are also working on our pocket books. Our next unit is building up to the Revolutionary War and then we will wrap up the year with our 50 State Unit.
